Art 1 Final Portfolio

1.With the cartoon you could put yourself in it and use your imagination. You had to understand what Bones goes together and understand the shape of the body. Everyone could choose a cartoon they liked or something they thought would be unique. They could choose something that they have a childhood memory with or grew up with. I liked this as a first drawing project because you could do anything that you wanted as long as you had the basic bones. This was different for everyone and you could put as much detail and time into it as you wanted. I chose Winnie the Pooh because I thought it would be cute to do someone with a big head and fat body because you have a lot of room to work with. I feel like this project was good started project because I didn’t feel like it had to be perfect because everyone’s was different.

2. With the car project you had to understand that you don’t see shapes you see values and to see values you have to understand light. Light is very important because it shows detail because if something is deeper or father away it will look like it is darker. If something is up close it will look lighter and you can see more detail. This car you had to see everything little thing and try not to draw shapes because that is what this project is trying to teach you. You have to see everything as values and not parts. Everything ended up coming together because you drew different values and the nine different values in it. When I started this art class I didn’t know that there are nine different values and you always see nine values. I didn’t understand how there could be so many didn’t colors in one object even when it wasn’t colorful. For the rest of the year I used values so this was I good intro to it.

3. When all the skills come together you get a well put together project that looks likes you know you are doing even If you don’t. You learn everything that goes into art and when you put it together it makes it look like you know what you are doing. With the clay piece you have to use everything you learned. You have to use color because you want the main piece of clay to stand out and the background color to overpower the piece. You have to use value and make things look like they are coming off the page and make them look like they have depth. You have to make sure they you use the right amount of texture to something to make it look like the real thing. When I first started this project I thought that It was going to be hard and It would turn out really bad but when I was done I was proud of what I made. I knew that when I looked at it that it was better than what I started out with. It was easy to do because we learned everything that we needed to learn within the time that we had to make something look real.

4. When I think of art, I think of using my hands and not computers. I think of painting and drawing. Yes, I think that using computers for Photoshop and things like that are good but when you use it for trying to mix colors and make them look like they go together I don't think that I works out to well. I feel like we would get more out of being in the class room then being on an iPad. I think that it is great that they have come out with apps that can do this kind of stuff but I think that drawing on paper is better because you don't have to make sure your finger doesn't more the wrong way and everything look like a mess. When I’m in the class room I feel more like I get better finishing pieces from working with pencil and paper. I feel like you understand it better when you actually do it yourself and see it happening. With this project I just feel like we wasted a day because we had already done it in class and seen how to do it so I didn’t feel like we needed to go to do it again. I think that this would have been a great starting project if we were in a computer art class though.

5. With the stencil project I feel like we could show who we really are. You could choose any picture of yourself and you could be doing anything. When you were doing the stencil you could choose any three colors that you wanted. This was my favorite project because I felt it was the first time we could do what we wanted and what we did couldn’t be wrong. We could show if we were a happy person or a sad person. As you can see I’m a happy person by the colors that I choose. When I was doing this project I felt like I was on my own I feel like it was really the only project I felt I really liked. When I look back to art I will always remember this project because it was the only one I really cared how it came out and I didn’t care about how much work went into it. If I could teach one project to an art class I would pick this because they can do anything they want with it and put as little or as much work into as you want and it should still come out good!
